PG&E Caused the 2021 DIXIE FIRE

A fuse blown on a PG&E owned, operated, and maintained powerline caused the largest wildfire of 2021 so far.

The PG&E caused Dixe Fire is over 5x the size of San Francisco and is so large it generates its own climate. As a result of PG&E complete lack of Best Practices relating to shutoff policies and its decision to keep electricity flowing in advance of the deadly and destructive blaze. Because of this, on July 14, 2021, the Dixie fire has already burned over 200,000 acres including homes, structures, businesses, and other buildings. PG&E stated a “FUSE BLOWN” in their July 13, 2021 report before the fire turned into a Megafire and engulfed more than 300,000 acres. In a filing on July 18, 2021, PG&E also stated they discovered that a Dixie fire broke out on a conductor above a pole, a tree leaning against a conductor, and a root of a tree in response to a circuit outage on July 13. As a result of their newest Dixie Fire, PG&E has vowed to bury over 10,000 miles of electrical lines.

Cal Fire expects the Dixie Fire will continue to rapidly expand, causing a need for the critical resources to control, and manage the incident. Fire crews will continue using/opening up old control lines to fight the fire.
